Instructions: ‘Breathing for Stress & Anxiety’
The intensity of anxiety and stress you may feel as a result of shedding old habits and patterns can be greatly reduced using any one of the following 2 breathing techniques. Experiment with both to see which one works best for you. Any one of these techniques can be used during an anxiety attack when breathing is fast and confusion is present to reduce its intensity or simply to gain deeper states of physical and mental relaxation. When practiced well these techniques will remove stress and anxiety completely.
1. Breathing for Anxiety and Stress Technique 1: ‘Bhramari Pranayama’

‘Bhramari’ is a large bee. In this kind of pranayama a sound is made like a humming bee. This technique is a good choice for beginners or those suffering anxiety because of the calming effect of the vibration emitted and the lengthening of the breath.

2. Breathing for Anxiety and Stress Technique 2: ‘Plavini Pranayama’

Though hardly ever used nowadays, ‘Plavini’ pranayama is an extremely powerful breathing technique that teaches us how to listen within in order to catch the force of the ‘sparks of life’ that generate the breath. This breathing technique is done by taking a normal inhalation unobstructed by any technique.
For the best results this technique is done in Savasana – the ‘relaxation’ pose which is a posture done for rejuvenation in yoga. To do this, simply lie in alignment with the back flat on the floor.
